Wildlife Rockstars is a company uses wildlife and conservation outreach to help traumatic brain injury survivors thrive! Director of Wildlife Education, Tiffany Joubert will be my guest. The organization is a day program service where members come and create goals for themselves to help recover from their injuries; goals that help them reestablish functions they may have lost. Functions like cognitive abilities, motor skills, speaking, social skills, and more. Part of the program is the Wildlife Rockstars’ which is our wildlife program. We have over 32 species of animals. Some of which are used as animal therapy animals to help the members with their mental health. Other animals go with the staff and members to animal presentation shows, animals like our new baby Wallaby Springsteen! The members give presentations about the animals at schools, retirement communities even birthday parties. These presentations play a vital role in helping the members learn to reestablish social skills, public speaking skills as well as building confidence.
Beating the Stigma of Mental Health
Second Wednesday of each month, Caren Robinson and Kim will be discussing the state of “dis ease” and stigma attached to Mental Health. That, in and of itself is a broad issue .. Add TBI and things get really tricky. This has been a time as they say “that tries ones soul”. Mental Health has taken a beating for kids, adults and everyone in between in this long relentless haul. Between politics, protests, pandemic, and personal challenges coping with the related fallout .. We have been pressed to our limits. Many have refused to seek help because of the stigma many times attached. Others are in need, indeed, but have in no way gotten immediate relief. Tonight we will talk about aspects of mental health and how we can raise awareness, take action, and find some relief.

Perspectives on Health-Caring with Tom Dahlborg
Thomas Dahlborg is many things – Husband, Father, Doggy Dad, Advocate, Author, Speaker and More. When Tom penned From Heart to Head & Back Again: .. A Journey Through the Healthcare System (Just Released in fall 2020), he had no idea he would be on the other side of the healthcare system in just a few short months. From developing “health caring” planning, to experiencing the reality of being a patient, was enough to lead his thoughts on the subject, to a place they hadn’t been. New perspectives, different side of the coin. Dahlborg is President of HealthCARING Leadership Group, LLC (DHLG) – Transforming healthcare to healthCARING. “It will take Heartchange to achieve healthCARING. Bringing relationship, compassion, and servant leadership back into healthcare as we all seek to improve quality, safety, and outcomes for our patients, families, and communities.” Tom will be with us the first hour of the show. In the second hour, feel free to call and share your hospital experience, or lack thereof in this challenging time which COVID has pressed the already tough limits.
Simon Says .. What Exactly? Ponderables
The word ponderables has it origins in the 1600’s. Where does our mind wonder when not directed. From the grave to the sublime, from the victim to the empowered, from serious to silly .. Tonght Simon & Kim will share some of their ponderables, and hope you might join in too. What are those nagging questions we revisit in our minds, or that may just zip on through, that give us reason for pause and curiosity? Author Henry James (1843-1916), in his book The Awkward Age speaks about “coming out” in old English Society. A review on his piece asks: “Do I have any sense of what is going on?” “Can I believe any of the characters?” “What in the world is this about?” “I’ve read that sentence ten times and I still don’t have a clue what it says.” “Who are the good guys and who are the bad guys?” Of course he uses the word ponderable more than once in his text on that account. Join us and ponder out yonder! 🙂

Sex and Love Beyond the Chocolates
alentine’s Day is around the corner .. A commercial holiday retail wouldn’t let you miss, right? For some it’s a day to celebrate that special someone in their life. For others, it shines a spotlight on the lack of a loving partner. I would contend that “Love” should be celebrated every day, not just on Feb 14th. Whether you are part of a “couple” of not .. You can still have a Happy Valentine’s Day! Kim and Caren will be discussing the changes in love, sex, relationships, and our sense of self after suffering a brain injury. The dangers that can enter the new aspects of the relationship, and the simple joys we can be empwered to create on our own, or with someone.
Seek, Not Found, Create with the Gormally’s
Malayka and Conor Gormally are the co-founders of Concussion Alliance, a nonprofit organization founded to create a one-stop-shop of reliable, easily accessible, evidence-based information about concussion treatments and resources to find healthcare specialists. Conor serves as Program Director for the Concussion Education & Advocacy Internship Program, and Malayka serves as the Executive Director. The impetus for the founding of the Concussion Alliance was very personal. After Conor got his fourth concussion, he developed Post-Concussion Syndrome, which still affects him. They searched to find treatments, but were astonished to find virtually no evidence-based information to guide Conor’s recovery. They resolved to create the resources needed themselves. To serve its 10,000 monthly visitors, concussionalliance.org has in-depth information about 16 different types of treatments and search tools to find qualified providers, pages about self-care, population-specific issues, and the structural and functional impact of concussions on patients’ lives. With the increase in concussion research, Concussion Alliance started the biweekly Concussion Update newsletter, which brings synopses of recent news and research to 1300 subscribers.
