Brain Aneurysm Awareness Month
Brain Aneurysm Survivors speak out with personal stories, and we’ll be discussing warning signs, treatments and other issues related to Awareness of a condition few but survivors know much about. An estimated 6.5 million people in the United States have an unruptured brain aneurysm, or 1 in 50 people. The annual rate of rupture is approximately 8 – 10 per 100,000 people. About 30,000 people in the United States suffer a brain aneurysm rupture each year. A brain aneurysm ruptures every 18 minutes. This September is the five year mark for Megan Bacigalupo. She suffered a spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage in 2017, while biking home. John Hileman is a nearly 20 year brain aneurysm survivor. He has never given up and never will let a brain injury limit his life. My rupture happened in 1995, when I underwent a craniotomy & clipping procedure. Ron Kratz suffered an aneurysm in 2009 receiving a coil & shunt procedure. Please call in and share a bit of your experience!
Filling a Gap for Gold Star Families
Amber Eidem is Founder and current President of nonprofit The Precious Legacy (TPL) that holds destination retreats for the young adult surviving children of service members that have died serving our Nation. Heaven Wadsworth TPL Board Secretary, and Military Survivors Advocate – Will be joining us. TPL does not practice bereavement hierarchy; every child grieves and is deserving of support, regardless of military branch, manner or location of loss, or biological relationship to their fallen service member. All surviving young adult children (ages 19-24) of the US Military qualify! Amber married an Active Duty Army Officer and having three children at home kept her very busy. In 2016 her husband was killed in the line of duty, leaving her to pick up the pieces. By the time the Eidem family was ready to explore the military support systems available to them, it was too late for more than one reason. Just a year after loss, oldest daughter Shae had ‘aged-out’ of any support groups available to her, leaving her to deal with her grief alone. In 2019 Amber applied for a family camp for survivors that accepted the aged-out as well, but was denied because her husband wasn’t killed on foreign land. Amber had a new Mission/Motto ‘Walking in their footsteps, while creating my own path’
