The new catch phrase has been “reimagining” this past year, better known as looking at something differently. Creating change to implement to the new vision. Sometimes we do that for ourselves, and others, people who think they know better, impose those changes for us. In the case of brain injury, we have a little of both. Those in-the-know often demonstrate the extent of their cluelessness, while others in concert with us help effect new changes that enhance our lives. Here we are at a place of new beginnings, growth, renewal, life springing forth after a dormant winter. The colors are brighter (or at least the promise), the birds out singing again, and the warmth replaces the brittle cold. What will we be doing to refresh, renew, grow, and reimagine this spring? ** Also breaking/current news on the COVID Vaccine!! Its been confusing, so we hope to untangle some confusion! This show is a gathering place for anyone seeking recovery from the challenges of life on life’s terms. We discuss useful tools that have helped us lighten the load, of our journey through recovery.
Surviving Death with Mike Anthony
Mike Anthony has been a professional actor and (not-professional) bartender since he graduated from Wayne State University with a Master of Arts degree in Theater. His first book, Life At Hamilton, chronicles the extraordinary time he spent as a theater bartender withan up-close perspective of Hamilton: An American Musical as it rocketed into Broadway history. Beyond his life in theater, Mike’s journey took an unexpected turn when his dad passed, leading him down a remarkable path of discovery. He now spends a good portion of his time exploring evidence suggestive of the survival of consciousness beyond the demise of the physical body. A part of Mike’s story is told in the 2021 Netflix documentary series, Surviving Death. His new book release Love, Dad outlines the journey in quest for answers. Mike is on hiatus due to Covid, where he is in the midst of working on several projects, including his next book and a documentary.
Brain Injury Wildlife Rockstars
Wildlife Rockstars is a company uses wildlife and conservation outreach to help traumatic brain injury survivors thrive! Director of Wildlife Education, Tiffany Joubert will be my guest. The organization is a day program service where members come and create goals for themselves to help recover from their injuries; goals that help them reestablish functions they may have lost. Functions like cognitive abilities, motor skills, speaking, social skills, and more. Part of the program is the Wildlife Rockstars’ which is our wildlife program. We have over 32 species of animals. Some of which are used as animal therapy animals to help the members with their mental health. Other animals go with the staff and members to animal presentation shows, animals like our new baby Wallaby Springsteen! The members give presentations about the animals at schools, retirement communities even birthday parties. These presentations play a vital role in helping the members learn to reestablish social skills, public speaking skills as well as building confidence.
Beating the Stigma of Mental Health
Second Wednesday of each month, Caren Robinson and Kim will be discussing the state of “dis ease” and stigma attached to Mental Health. That, in and of itself is a broad issue .. Add TBI and things get really tricky. This has been a time as they say “that tries ones soul”. Mental Health has taken a beating for kids, adults and everyone in between in this long relentless haul. Between politics, protests, pandemic, and personal challenges coping with the related fallout .. We have been pressed to our limits. Many have refused to seek help because of the stigma many times attached. Others are in need, indeed, but have in no way gotten immediate relief. Tonight we will talk about aspects of mental health and how we can raise awareness, take action, and find some relief.

From developing “health caring” planning, to experiencing the reality of being a patient, was enough to lead his thoughts on the subject, to a place they hadn’t been. New perspectives, different side of the coin. Dahlborg is President of HealthCARING Leadership Group, LLC (DHLG) – Transforming healthcare to healthCARING. “It will take Heartchange to achieve healthCARING.
