Simon Says: TBI, Changing and Adapting

Welcome back to Simon! Aside from our assorted health issues keeping us apart on the air waves for a couple of months – The best laid plans as they say … Our last WED of each month shows have been spotty. Hopefully now we are back in the groove. We will be discussing life interrupting our plans, imparting extreme change, and our ability to accept, take affirming action and adapt to our new life, reframed. No easy task and sadly some are never able. For those who are, they suffer their grief, and come out the other side – How? Life is for the living, how do we define a happy, productive life? We honor our fallen, but never want to leave behind the living still suffering. April 26th (encourage you to check out program On Demand) I interviewed Joe Pisano, pisanoartistry.com – immortalizing heroes to life with his art. Timely anytime, but especially with Memorial Day still lingering in our minds. Joe also discussed news from Dr. Chrisanne Gordon, Founder of resurrectinglives.org. Their film “Brainstorms” was a contender at the GI Film Festival Award in San Diego, to happen two weeks after our interview! Happy to announce they WON! Film demonstrates what it’s like to suffer a TBI through the eyes of survivor.

My Miracle with Rodney Barnes

Rodney Barnes book, “My Miracle” speaks of different moments in his life before, during, and after the accident that had a huge change in the way he see life now. Some of these episodes were very exciting, others not so much. The biggest part of Rodney’s life was finding a relationship with God. My Miracle allows you to see through his eyes, to enable you to make changes in your lif, so you don’t have to go through the hard steps of life that he did. It’s all about finding your way, decisions we make, dealing with daily life and directions we might take (either bad or good), coping with reality, and so much more. Rodney’s book has made such an impact, that a screen play of his book has already been registered, and the movie is due out by 2016.

WarHawk Service Dogs

Kevin “WarHawk” Doncaster is a United States Marine Veteran. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan and has a combined 14 years in service to his country as both a Marine, and Department of Defense Contractor. During those 14 years, he spent 3 years in Iraq and 4 years in Afghanistan. Kevin sustained multiple injuries as a result of his service in the Middle East. After coming home for good, Kevin was searching for answers and help for the struggles associated with exposure to war. While he made it home safely, his mind remained at War. Kevin was gifted a fully trained Australian Shepherd as a PTSD service dog. Two weeks following that special day, a friend died by suicide. Kevin called the same provider and asked one question… “How do I do what you did for me, for a lot of people?” Kevin decided to take the adversity, and turn it in to action. WarHawk PTSD Service Dogs was born, and since that time, they have delivered 45 dogs to 18 states. Kevin has ambition to deliver to all 50 states, and his current mission is taking him to New Zealand to deliver a dog to a unit there that served alongside the coalition forces and America in our times of need, combating global terrorism.
