A few weeks ago, my show discussed the Acoustic TBI, a topic you seldom hear about. There was a lot of interest expressed, so I got to thinking about other environmental threats to our bodies and brains. Immediately I recalled the weaponized microwave attack to a US Embassy, causing many severe TBI’s. No one saw it coming. We have a lot of great technology like cells, 5G Towers, Microwave ovens, Bluetooth devices, smart watches, windmill farms .. Some for convenience and changing times, and some seeking “green”. We have heard a lot about the pros, and these things aren’t going away .. But what are the trade-offs possibly effecting our health? Simon and I will be discussing this, to raise awareness but also in hopes of finding ways to mitigate any damage that can be done.
Compassion Heals with “Patient Lee”
The life mission of Lee Tomlinson – also known as “Patient Lee” — is to inspire healthcare professionals to return compassionate care to its rightful place at the forefront of modern healthcare – to benefit patients, their families; and they’re often suffering, “burned-out” selves. Award-winning television producer, movie studio executive and owner, former professional athlete, speaker and TED Talk presenter, “Patient Lee” is alive today due to the combination of a lifetime of extraordinarily effective medical treatment and deeply kind, compassionate care. During a battle with Stage 3+ cancer, “Patient Lee” became painfully aware of the trauma caused by treatment lacking in compassion that drove him to the darkest of depths. What saved him from suicide was a simple, yet powerful act of compassion delivered by a loving doctor and friend. With new purpose, “Patient Lee” created the Compassion Heals Movement, which is designed to reconnect America’s 20 million healthcare professionals with the compassion that got them into healthcare in the first place. Then deal with the “burn-out” that affects over 60% of these vital caretakers, rendering them unable to provide compassion to their patients, themselves, or anyone else. Once healed of their own distress, to reignite these dedicated professionals. Lee has told his story on more than 200 stages around the world, wearing nothing but a hospital gown. Presented with his unique mixture of humor, compassion, urgency, encouragement, “Patient Lee” is making a difference in restoring compassion to healthcare. Finding this mission wasn’t easy, which he discusses in his book Compassion Heals – From Self Care to Health Care.
Hope TBI on Recovery Now with Caren and Kim
Kim and Co-Host Caren Robinson will be discussing Blast Injury and Acoustic TBI. We think of Blast Injury in terms of our Veterans .. At least that’s where most of us became aware of the term. Many have never heard of Acoustic TBI. These injuries are not veteran exclusive. Tune in tonight and hear how these types may be effecting you or your loved one(s).
From Cradle to Grave and Back
My guest tonight is Ian (Powell) McCullum, author of From Grave to Cradle to Now -The Health Care Professional Edition. The book is a father’s account of his families journey with a traumatically brain injured son, who they were told would die imminently. Written by a health care neophyte, with the assistance of health care professionals, the book addresses—separately and together—both families and professionals.Seewww.marrette.cc/hcpro.htmlfor more information.

Path to Owning Your Life Story
In her new book Authenticity Awakened: The Path to OWNING Your Life’s Story and Fulfilling Your Purpose, Vicki Znavor guides readers on how to mine their life story to discover their pivotal moments, values and their purpose which together create the foundation for ultimate success and a rewarding work life. She helps others understand their pivotal life stories, their values and their purpose by providing tools, exercises and real-life examples. She has also incorporated significant research on the topic. As the awareness that one has of their authenticity deepens, it becomes increasingly more difficult to show up as someone they’re not. By awakening your Authenticity, you stop living someone else’s life, cease simply going along with others’ expectations of you, have the courage to admit your mistakes, ask for what you are worth, and have the courage to have difficult conversations with others. She guides you on all of this!
TBI Time of Hope, Renewal & New Beginnings
A couple of weeks ago I was going to discuss a twist on this topic, but the first half of that show was on the quickly changing COVID information, rules and resources. That ended up taking the whole show! The last “Simon Says” installment, has some great information on the vaccines, the virus and the future. CoHost Caren and I decided this is an even better time in spring to discuss hope and change, renewal and new beginnings! The end of March, though officially spring, easn’t quite feeling it for mid-westerners Caren and I. Long winter … Reframing our thinking and positive psychology are just some of the ways we can navigate the course of life, much more smoothly. By now we are seeing signs of color and new life. We can make this time to enjoy getting back outside, and some attitude adjustment. Join us for this productive and interesting discussion! Both of my books are on spring sale on Amazon to celebrate spring! For the month of April enjoy these lower prices!
Importance of Networking with Nathan Perez
Networking plays a major role in every aspect of our lives, even if we don’t see or realize that we’re doing it. Especially in our professional lives. When it comes to job search and career development, it’s hands-down the most important skill to have. Tonight we’ll learn from an expert, how to make the preocess less intimidating! Networking…do I have to? It’s a common sentiment, and shared by most. Except for some self-proclaimed extroverts, most people don’t care for the idea of networking. It’s intimidating for some, and scary for others. What do I do? What do I expect? What do I say? Consequently, people avoid networking altogether. None the less, most jobs and compatible relationships rely on a good bit of networking. Join me with Nathan Perez who co-authored the wildly successful book series The 20-Minute Networking Meeting and learn the edge to this skill, so challenging for most.
Simon Says: Reimagining and Renewal
The new catch phrase has been “reimagining” this past year, better known as looking at something differently. Creating change to implement to the new vision. Sometimes we do that for ourselves, and others, people who think they know better, impose those changes for us. In the case of brain injury, we have a little of both. Those in-the-know often demonstrate the extent of their cluelessness, while others in concert with us help effect new changes that enhance our lives. Here we are at a place of new beginnings, growth, renewal, life springing forth after a dormant winter. The colors are brighter (or at least the promise), the birds out singing again, and the warmth replaces the brittle cold. What will we be doing to refresh, renew, grow, and reimagine this spring? ** Also breaking/current news on the COVID Vaccine!! Its been confusing, so we hope to untangle some confusion! This show is a gathering place for anyone seeking recovery from the challenges of life on life’s terms. We discuss useful tools that have helped us lighten the load, of our journey through recovery.
Surviving Death with Mike Anthony
Mike Anthony has been a professional actor and (not-professional) bartender since he graduated from Wayne State University with a Master of Arts degree in Theater. His first book, Life At Hamilton, chronicles the extraordinary time he spent as a theater bartender withan up-close perspective of Hamilton: An American Musical as it rocketed into Broadway history. Beyond his life in theater, Mike’s journey took an unexpected turn when his dad passed, leading him down a remarkable path of discovery. He now spends a good portion of his time exploring evidence suggestive of the survival of consciousness beyond the demise of the physical body. A part of Mike’s story is told in the 2021 Netflix documentary series, Surviving Death. His new book release Love, Dad outlines the journey in quest for answers. Mike is on hiatus due to Covid, where he is in the midst of working on several projects, including his next book and a documentary.
