Messages of Hope

In 2010, Janice Tindle 54, was the passenger in an automobile collision involving an underinsured driver and her husband. She sustained a spine and traumatic brain injury. Since that time, she has become an online awareness advocate for TBI, neurological disorders and invisible disability by writing about it on her blog, janicetindle.com. She is currently writing a book about overcoming adversity, as well as being an international published writer since her TBI.

As we face these game changing life events, many survivors become messengers, using their recovery tools to help others. Join Janice and I as we discuss her process through the maze of brain injury, and understand you can do it too, in your time.

Police Brutality Against Their Own

Join my guest(s) the McPeak’s as we discuss the brutality imposed on their son, as he was about to complete training at the police academy. Due to the nature of a training drill where blunt force is used, CS sustained substantial brain injury. Denial by the Blue Wall cause great hardship. Awareness needs to be raised and new protocol in place for “crisis management” training, mandatory for all officers in the special circumstances of a person with a TBI or mental illness. Not enough education or knowledge is known about the effects of brain injury and repeated concussions, among their own, or the public at large. What can we legislate, raise awareness of a need for change in protocol in some police training programs? We’re learning it with the NFL, the Veteran’s, and now perhaps a need for law enforcement? For the safety of all consider a Veteran coming home with an undiagnosed brain injury, joining the force, confronting a patron with an unrecognized TBI, and the perfect storm that could become.

Lightening Bolt from Hell

Maria Micheletto had a rude awakening in October 2006. Many of us think we had no warning, but in retrospect it appear some signs were already simmering. On the 23rd though, there was no doubt there was a very serious situation at hand, when Maria was struck in the head with a pain like no other – It literally brought her to her knees. Scary to me, is that she was initially misdiagnosed as I had been in 1995! There is an untold hell, when you are in blinding pain relying the experts, and you know they are failing you. Not all hospitals are created equal. Join us for Maria’s journey, from the brink of death to a new career in the Neuro ICU.

Voices of 9-11

Mary Fetchet is Founding Director of VOICES, a non-profit organization she co-founded in 2001 following the death of her 24 year old son Brad at the World Trade Center. Her unique background as a mother of a victim, along with over 20 years of expertise as a clinical social worker, influenced VOICES innovative approach to creating a new paradigm in providing long-term support services. Using social work practices, she guided the development of programs that provide continuity of care and promote resiliency in the lives of victims’ families, responders and survivors. Today, Ms. Fetchet is also helping communities heal after other traumatic events through VOICES Center of Excellence for Community Resilience, an initiative that she launched in 2014. As a clinician, she recognized the importance of commemoration and supporting families through the emotional but therapeutic process of honoring their loved ones in a meaningful way. The 9/11 Living Memorial Project is now an extensive digital collection of over 70,000 photographs and personal keepsakes contributed by thousands of family members. voicesofseptember11.org

Brain Aneurysm and Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

Christine J. Buckley became the Executive Director of The Brain Aneurysm Foundation in 2006, after having been a volunteer for 9yrs. She established the foundation’s first major fundraiser, a 5K and 1.5 mile walk, 14 years ago that continues to raise approximately $50,000 each year. Her most prized accomplishment at the foundation has been the establishment of the research grant program which has awarded over $1,200,000 in 9 years. As we recognize September as Brain Aneurysm Awareness Month, join us to hear about these grants, as well as the services provided by BAF to survivors and their families. More at: bafound.org
