Learn more by visiting bassettlawyers.com, email Melissa Thomas at mthomas@bassettlawyers.com or calling 800-331-1127. Tonight, Melissa will cover the Social Security Disability Application and Appeals Process and why filing (or appealing) a disability claim, as soon as possible, is to your financial advantage. Whether you’ve been denied service connection, or your rating is not 100%, it’s important for you to contact an attorney as quickly as possible to protect your rights. Failing to appeal a denial or a low rating can have financial consequences. We prepare a strategy and are not just form completers.
What TBI’s Want You To Know
Tonight we will be discussing “What Brain Injury Survivors Want You To Know,” excerpted from Lost and Found: A Survivor’s Guide For Reconstructing Life After a Brain Injury, By Barbara J. Webster. More information on her book can be found at:
http://www.lapublishing.com/survivor-cognitive-strategies/
For many of us survivors, it’s hard to communicate with our loved ones and others, just how the function of our brains has changed. Our inability to express these elements of the “new me” are a frustrating, as well as isolating, experience.
Hopefully this reading will aid our listeners by providing tips that make it easier to let people know, what we’re dealing with. By providing a better understanding to those around us, we hope to improve the quality of our relationships. When we come out “looking normal,” people expect us to act that way. Most times the old normal is long gone, and we’re just processing the new normal ourselves. This reading will help communicate those details to others.
I’m New Here!!
Tonight will be my first show as host on Brain Injury Radio! We will discuss a little about how I got here, and what to expect on future shows.
My programs will address the challenges we face in recovering from traumatic brain injuries. Some shows will have a guest, offering tips or information to aid in our quest toward recovery. Other nights I will introduce a topic for our audience, and then enjoy having input from our callers.
I always welcome your ideas for programming, and hope we will have a forum based on mutual respect and tolerance. We want to educate, console and raise awareness for all things TBI.

Kim Justus, author and talk show host, shares her personal account of her battle to survive a ruptured brain aneurysm, a near death experience, and the miracles that ensued. In a Flash, Kim’s memoirs are a powerful story of survival, challenges of faith, and divine orchestration. Kim’s story offers encouragement and hope to those who have suffered a loss, or who have ever questioned their faith.
Recovery Now covers 95% directly brain injury related topics. At the same time, we are “People First” not defined by our injuries, and have the same challenges, dreams, and interests as those who don’t have brain injury .. So from time to time you have noticed guests who don’t speak directly to brain injury, but to topics which apply to all people. On a path to drop the victim status, practice acceptance, and redefine our purpose – We all need guides & tips.
