Cyber Bullying

Some people think bullying only applies to kids, since this is where most of the emphasis is put in public education. “Vulnerable Groups” such as those with disabilities, are now being recognized as people, who are just as deeply effected by mean spirited harassment. Tonight we’ll be discussing what constitutes cyber bullying, and what you can do if you believe you’ve ben a victim of this kind of abuse.

Guest, Brian Craig is a Staff Attorney at Disability Rights Nebraska. He provides advocacy for students in special education matters, represents clients in litigation, and performs monitoring activities at private and state-run facilities throughout the State.

Dancing with Donna

Tonight my guest is Donna Marie Paquette aka TBI Dancewalker! With Valentine’s Day around the corner, some may be feeling a little blue. When you hear about Donna’s journey from brain tumor, to TBI, and through recovery…You’ll be back in the red. Donna will show you that you don’t need a partner to dance, and find your way to a life of wellness and ongoing recovery. For more on her see www.dancewalker.org or on Facebook search TBI Dancewalker to see some amazing video’s.

Chutes and Ladders Saturday

As an survivor or caregiver knows, there are lots of ups and downs in the brain injury community. From the incident itself, to the care given in the traditional medical model, to how others treat us afterward, and how we see ourselves.

Tonight is open mic to talk about your own ups and downs, and the tools you’ve found to help. How do you cope? How do all these factors make you feel or change your past perceptions?

We will also be show casing some great music by our participating Indy Musicians, so kick back, relax and join us for a casual Saturday night gathering.

The Brain Fairy

On January 15, 2006, Linda Arms faced an abrupt end to the person she recognized, when she became a TBI survivor. Her circumstance was considered a mild to moderate brain injury, but caused debilitating damage to her cognitive abilities and left her physically weak.

She was suddenly toppled from what she thought to be her personal peak, into a deep hole by a freak accident. That is when she became Mina Kitty. Linda became someone who was always tired, walking around the house slowly, laying down a lot in different places in the house, taking naps, rarely leaving the house. It was like being a house cat. From that place, The Brain Fairy would emerge.

See www.thebrainfairy.com where you can read more about her enlightening journey.

Broken Mind

A promising young student is cut down by manic depression.  Soon after, his car is T-boned by a tractor trailer in a snowy highway collision, making his existing instability many times worse.  His marriage with a Russian wife comes under unbearable strain.  How he emerges from all this to return to normal life is the exciting story of Broken Mind, Persistent Hope. Author and survivor, Thomas Hartmann will be my guest, sharing his exceptional experience. Israeli Dr Researching New TBI Drug

Dr. Adrian Harel, is owner and president of MediCortex, operating in Israel and the US. Now in the R&D stage, the company’s goal is to bring a new multifunctional drug or innovative treatment to the market that will prevent or reduce secondary accelerated symptoms of traumatic brain injury and neurological dysfunction. Dr. Harel was educated primarily in Israel, earning advanced degrees in both Neurobiology and Business. He has worked in the field of Biotechnologies and Stem Based Therapies for over a decade. New research shows that a traumatic brain injury, even a mild one, can trigger an earlier onset of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson’s disease. To date, there is no drug designed specifically to treat TBI. See www.medicortex.com
